Work Permit

Obtaining a work permit in Canada is a necessary step for foreign nationals who wish to work in the country. To apply for a work permit in Canada, individuals must first have a valid job offer from a Canadian employer. The employer may need to provide proof of their efforts to recruit Canadian citizens or permanent residents before hiring a foreign worker.

In some cases, a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) may be required, which assesses the impact of hiring a foreign worker on the Canadian labor market. Certain work permits are exempt from the LMIA requirement, such as those under international trade agreements or for workers in specific occupations. Once the job offer is secured, the prospective employee can apply for a work permit through the appropriate channels.

There are different types of work permits available, including employer-specific work permits and open work permits. Employer-specific work permits are tied to a specific employer, while open work permits allow individuals to work for any employer in Canada.

Applicants for a work permit may need to undergo a medical examination and provide biometric information as part of the application process. It is important to note that work permits have expiration dates and may be subject to renewal or extension.
