Helping Nurses Before and After They Arrive
To be eligible, applicants must hold a diploma, degree, or certificate in nursing and have a Confirmation of Permanent Residence (COPR) from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).
Importantly, the program offers two streams based on where you are in your immigration journey.
If You’re Still Overseas
Internationally trained nurses who are not yet in Canada but already have their COPR can access support before arriving. This early assistance includes:
One-on-one mentorship from licensed Canadian nurses
Webinars explaining provincial licensure processes
Clinical language training designed for healthcare settings
Document preparation tips and settlement planning
By engaging early, you can build confidence and save valuable time when you land.
If You’ve Already Landed in Canada
If you’re a newcomer, the program continues after you arrive. It helps you:
Connect with local regulators and understand licensure requirements
Prepare for licensing exams
Improve your résumé and job search strategy
Receive personalized settlement advice
These services are especially helpful if you’re still adjusting to life in Canada and want to rejoin the nursing workforce as soon as possible.
Why This Program Matters
Across the country, healthcare systems are struggling with staffing gaps. In 2023 alone, over 28,000 nursing jobs remained unfilled. While many internationally trained nurses come to Canada with extensive experience, they often face barriers when re-entering their profession.
This new support program reduces those barriers. It ensures that qualified nurses can transition smoothly and confidently into regulated roles.
