Canada has launched Express Entry Physicians 2026, a dedicated pathway for physicians with Canadian work experience. On February 19, 2026, the government issued 391 Invitations to Apply (ITAs). The CRS score was 169, one of the lowest in recent history. This new category allows doctors working in Canada to secure permanent residence faster.
Express Entry Physicians 2026 is a targeted immigration category for doctors already working in Canada. Unlike general Express Entry draws, it focuses only on physicians. The pathway helps Canada fill healthcare gaps while giving qualified doctors a direct route to permanent residence.
This new category is part of Canada’s 2026 Express Entry updates, which include several occupation-based draws for priority professions. For more details, see IRCC – Express Entry.
The first draw for this category occurred on February 19, 2026. 391 physicians received ITAs, and the CRS cut-off score was 169. This low score makes it easier for eligible doctors to obtain permanent residence.
Moreover, this draw demonstrates Canada’s focus on retaining skilled healthcare professionals. In addition, it indicates that more category-based draws are expected throughout 2026.
For reference, see the official coverage from CIC News.
Doctors must meet the following criteria to qualify:
Maintain an active Express Entry profile through programs such as the Canadian Experience Class or Federal Skilled Worker Program.
Have at least 12 months of full-time (or equivalent part-time) Canadian work experience as a physician in the past three years.
Hold valid medical licensure in Canada, as required by provincial regulatory bodies.
Eligible positions include general practitioners, family physicians, and clinical or laboratory specialists.
Additionally, doctors should ensure their credentials are recognized by the relevant provincial college of physicians to avoid delays.
This new pathway offers several advantages:
Lower CRS Thresholds: A cut-off of 169 allows more doctors to receive ITAs.
Faster Permanent Residence: Physicians no longer compete with non-medical candidates.
Targeted Labour Market Support: Canada addresses physician shortages in rural and underserved regions.
Clear Pathway for International Medical Graduates: Foreign-trained doctors with licensure now have a predictable route to PR.
In addition, future draws under this category are expected, giving eligible doctors multiple opportunities in 2026.
