New Proof of Funds Requirement for Canada’s Atlantic Immigration Program (2025 Update)

What You Need to Know About the 2025 Settlement Fund Increase for Atlantic Immigration Program

As of July 29, 2025, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has revised the required Atlantic Immigration Program funds. This financial requirement applies to applicants immigrating to Atlantic Canada through the AIP, particularly those who are outside Canada or bringing dependents.

If you plan to apply this year, it’s essential to understand the updated amounts and how to meet them.

What Is the Atlantic Immigration Program?

The Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP) is a permanent residency pathway for skilled workers and international graduates with a job offer in one of four Atlantic provinces: New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, or Newfoundland and Labrador.

A key eligibility requirement—especially for those outside Canada—is demonstrating sufficient settlement funds, now officially referred to as Atlantic Immigration Program funds by IRCC.

New Atlantic Immigration Program Funds Requirement for 2025

IRCC updates settlement fund amounts each year based on Canada’s Low-Income Cut-Off (LICO). Here are the updated Atlantic Immigration Program funds effective July 29, 2025:

Family Size

Required Settlement Funds (CAD)

1 person

$3,815

2 people

$4,750

3 people

$5,840

4 people

$7,090

5 people

$8,042

6 people

$9,070

7 people

$10,098

Additional Member

+$1,028 per person

These funds are required to show you can financially support yourself and your family when you arrive in Canada.

Who Is Exempt From Showing Atlantic Immigration Program Funds?

You do not need to show settlement funds if you:

  • Are already in Canada, and

  • Hold a valid work permit when applying under AIP

This exception makes it easier for temporary workers to apply for permanent residency without worrying about the financial documentation.

What Documents to Submit

To prove you meet the Atlantic Immigration Program funds requirement, you must submit:

  • A formal letter from your bank or financial institution

  • Your full name, account numbers, and type of accounts

  • The date each account was opened

  • Your current balance and average balance for the past 6 months

  • Any outstanding debts (credit cards, loans, etc.)

Note: These funds must be easily accessible and not borrowed. You can submit a joint bank account with your spouse, as long as you can show shared access.

Why These Fund Updates Matter

Not meeting the new Atlantic Immigration Program funds requirement could:

  • Delay your application

  • Result in a refusal due to ineligibility

  • Disrupt your immigration timeline

IRCC strictly enforces these thresholds to ensure all applicants can settle successfully without needing immediate public support.

Final Thoughts: Plan Ahead for Atlantic Immigration Program Funds

If you’re applying through the AIP in 2025, we recommend:

  • Reviewing your total savings now

  • Making sure your bank documents cover the required six-month history

  • Calculating based on your entire family size, even if some are not immigrating with you

  • Acting quickly, especially if you’re close to the threshold

These updated Atlantic Immigration Program funds are not just numbers—they’re a critical part of your eligibility. Start preparing early to avoid surprises.
